Trees and Landscaping
Whether purchasing a home with mature trees and shrubs or starting from scratch, caring for shrubs and trees should be a priority to keep them healthy. Neglect of vegetation can lead to property damage and unhappy neighbors, while proper maintenance can make a statement about a home and add to its value.
Planting the wrong tree or shrub, or planting it in the wrong locations, are common mistakes that usually result in starting all over again. When planting trees or shrubs, it is best to consult with a professional.
Mature trees and shrubs need occasional pruning. Shrubs should be pruned about 12 inches away from siding and air conditioners, and trees should be pruned at least four feet away from roofs. Dead branches that could fall and cause property damage or injury should be pruned. Some trees need to be thinned to protect them from damage during high winds and ice storms. Pruning techniques and timing are important to prevent disease and death of both trees and shrubs.
While many people appreciate the convenience of a professional lawn care company, some people enjoy fertilizing, weeding and mowing their own lawns. Other projects may not be as easy for do-it-yourselfers. Safety should be a priority when working with sharp tools, in trees, or from ladders and rooftops. Many people have suffered serious injuries and death due to inexperience.
Unless you are certain you have a green thumb to care for highly-valued trees and shrubs, it is best to hire certified professionals. Professionals have the proper equipment and knowledge to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.
