June Member Spotlight: Andrea Potterton, Broker Associate

 June 1, 2023      webadmin

How long have you been working in the real estate industry?
17 years.

How did you get into real estate?
I grew up in a family active with buying, selling, and building homes, and I always enjoyed being immersed in it. It was educational to be around family members who worked in construction. I bought my first home when I had just turned 23 and I loved the pride of ownership. And then I married my husband who is a third generation broker/owner and it naturally developed from there!

What was one of your greatest challenges starting out?
I started in the industry just before the housing market crashed. I had to get creative and sharpen my skills to get homes sold, deal with foreclosures, be persistent, etc.

What support or advice did you find most helpful when starting out in the industry?
Work hard. Always be as proactive as possible so that you have the flexibility to deal with last minute schedule changes, etc.

What do you enjoy most about working in real estate?
I love connecting and relationship building with my buyers and sellers. I enjoy making the process as seamless as possible. I have also worked with a lot of great agents throughout the years, and I have been blessed to see some of the most stunning land in the Driftless Area. I feel very fortunate to be living in such a beautiful area.

What is your proudest achievement or favorite memory working in real estate?
I love it when I am entrusted to work with multiple generations of clients.

What advice would you give to someone new to the industry, or someone considering real estate?
Learn, learn, learn. Getting your license is just the beginning!

How has being a member of RASCW benefited you?
We have such a great Board, and as a member of the Board of Directors, I have enjoyed learning in more detail about the high level developments in our profession.

How are you involved and making a difference in your community?
Over of the years I have served on various community boards in the areas we have offices. I currently serve on the RASCW Board of Directors, the Mission Endowment Committee at my church, and I am the President of the Upland Hills Health Foundation.

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, alive or not, who would it be?
My mother! She died from lupus when I was four, and it would be amazing to connect as adults.

Outside of work, what makes you happy?
My family and spending time outside in nature…ideally spending time with my family in nature!
