Minority Scholarship – Alina Castaneda

How long have you been in real estate?
Almost 2 years

What made you want to pursue real estate as a career?
I wanted to try something new after being retired for over a year from 20 years as a Certified Medical Interpreter in San Diego, California. I owned my agency of interpreters and now I didn’t want to be an employee 9 to 5. Having independence and being my own boss was my priority if I was going back to work. That is why real estate made sense to me.

What motivated you to apply for the RASCW Minority Scholarship?
A friend told me about it.

What did receiving the RASCW Minority Scholarship mean to you?
It’s a nice gesture to help new agents.

What helped you the most as a new agent?
Networking with my very small circle of friends.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new REALTOR®?
To have a lot of savings to last the entire first year because this is not an easy career, and it might take that long to start making money.

What has been most rewarding about being a REALTOR®?
Helping people find the house of their dreams is the most rewarding experience I have had, especially those who are first-time buyers.
