How long have you been working in the real estate industry?
9 years

How did you get into real estate?
I have always loved interior design and the House Hunters TV series from a young age. My husband and I started buying rental property, and after our first purchase, I decided to get licensed!

What was one of your greatest challenges starting out?
One of my greatest challenges was teaching myself how to be a landlord and manage rental property, all while working a full time job at the University (I currently still work there) and overseeing our household of five. I purchased several landlord/tenant books, conducted research, and increased my knowledge of local laws.

What support or advice did you find most helpful when starting out in the industry?
The best advice is to find a mentor to help you navigate the industry.

What do you enjoy most about working in real estate?
The everyday challenges, learning new things, and meeting people from all over the country to help them make an important purchase, investment, or relocation. When my tenants reach out for assistance in purchasing their first home after renting for years, it’s another rewarding experience. Seeing a client’s happiness warms my heart!

What is your proudest achievement or favorite memory in real estate?
There are so many! One of my proudest achievements is completing a multi-state 1031 exchange and turning it into an Airbnb. Along with a favorite memory in real estate when I assisted friends from high school (who are high school sweethearts) buy and sell both homes.

What advice would you give to someone new to the industry, or someone considering real estate?
Trust your instincts and use all of the available resources.

How are you involved and making a difference in your community?
I contribute to a variety of local charities and fundraisers including non-profits to benefit cancer organizations, the Middleton & Madison Police Departments, a horse rescue, and Luke’s Closet, to name a few. Before real estate, I ran a cancer organization through equestrian show jumping and have plans to raise more proceeds in the near future!

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, alive or not, who would it be?
My grandma Joy, who passed away. She was the first female business owner I knew who was an inspiring part of my life growing up. I would love to have lunch with her again and converse about everything in life or business.

Outside of work, what makes you happy?
My family, our dog, riding horses, giving back to the community, and traveling!
